How to Know When to Seek Help for Life Issues

Life has been going along okay for you or so you thought. Lately you have been finding

yourself not wanting to meet with friends, worried about if you are going to lose your

job, even though you’ve been at the job for over 10 years, and not wanting to get out of

bed even on work days. Sound familiar?

You start wondering if you need help of some kind. But how do you know you need

professional help rather than just having a “few off days or in a funk?”

Here are several signs you might need professional help.

  • Your family, friends, and even co-workers are making more and more comments

that “you don’t seem like yourself.” Or “you seem ‘off’ lately.”

  • Your family, friends, and even co-workers are noticing you are more prone to

outbursts of anger (which is not usually like you), you are more easily irritated than

usual, and you seem to “check out” a lot lately.

  • Your family, friends, and even co-workers notice you are not eating as much or you

are eating more than you usually do. They notice you are more tired than usual and

you seem to “be asleep at the wheel” so to speak. These are all things that are not

your usual and people around you are noticing.

  • Your ability to problem solve, think rationally/logically, ability to work with others

and to think ahead and react appropriately has decreased significantly where you

are having difficulties in performing daily activities at work and at home. These

difficulties are affecting others as well.

  • You find your self feeling disconnected with yourself and others you work with and

love and care about. You seem only interested in yourself and not others.

  • You find yourself constantly worried about things you have no control over like the

weather, if you are going to lose your job or your family or significant other. These

thoughts about these worries take up most of your waking hours and you find

yourself exhausted at the end of the day with minimal tasks accomplished, whether

it be at work or at home.

  • You find yourself not wanting to talk to others about what is going on with you. You

stop talking to your co-workers, your family and friends and you stop doing

activities you used to like doing such as dancing, painting, going out with friends,

    and being with your family.
